About the class

The hunter is Azeroth's ranged fighter: a survivalist who battles with bow or gun and a tamed beast at his side.

History & role

Hunters are survivalists of the wilds. They combine skill with ranged weapons and a close bond to wild animals.

Those who become hunters learn to tame beasts and lead them into battle as companions. Each companion brings its own skills, depending on its species.

Hunters are found among many peoples, in the Alliance and the Horde, and prove their worth wherever one has to find one's way in the wilds.

What sets the class apart

  • Pet

The hunter tames beasts and can keep extra ones with a stable master. Each species brings its own active abilities.

  • Aspects

Aspects are animal-themed stances that raise damage, grant speed or protect the hunter. Only one is active at a time.

  • Traps

Traps like Freezing Trap and Frost Trap control enemies. They are placed on the ground and trigger when an enemy steps on them.

  • Ammunition

Bows, guns and crossbows consume arrows or bullets stored in a quiver or ammo pouch.

  • Feign Death

Feign Death lets the hunter shake off the enemies' attention, even mid-fight. Enemies can resist it, though.

Class quests & milestones

  • Taming the Beast

From level 10, a three-part quest chain teaches taming. You tame three animals with a taming rod and finally learn the spell Tame Beast.
