Auction House bug in WoW: Forever: deposit charged too high

The problem

If you are missing money, the Auction House in WoW: Forever may be the culprit: right now too much silver is sometimes taken as a deposit when posting. Many players reported missing more money than expected. At low levels, where every silver counts for training new skills, that can quickly hurt.

According to a Reddit report, the Auction House took a fixed minimum amount for many auctions, even when the item value should have triggered a much smaller deposit. Testing confirmed that more was taken than displayed.

Test results

  • When posting a Lesser Healing Potion, the amount actually taken differed from the displayed deposit. Across several tested items with very low deposits, the same minimum amount was taken each time.
  • If the deposit is above that minimum, the charge is more precise, but rounding errors remain. When posting a wand, the final balance was slightly lower than starting balance minus displayed deposit should have given.

What you can do

Right now all items with a deposit below the minimum are automatically rounded up to it. If you use the Auction House to earn extra money for training or consumables, vendoring the items is often easier and safer for now, depending on the possible profit. Otherwise you risk spending money to sell your items instead of earning it.
